Before moving to Cape May County, Hugh and Lynn lived in Haddon Township. A graduate of Camden Catholic High School and West Chester State College, Hugh taught history at Haddon Township High School (‘65-77’) and coached the high school swimming team (‘65-70’). Hugh went on to coach full time and manage the Jersey Wahoo Swim Club (‘77-87’). He developed outstanding age group swimmers as well as National and International caliber swimmers. Lynn graduated from Woodbury High School and Temple University and taught physical education at Woodbury Heights Elementary School (‘86-90’). She also worked with Hugh as an age group swimming coach for the Jersey Wahoos Swim Club in Mount Laurel, NJ. Lynn actually began her real estate career in 1984 and took a brief sabbatical from real estate (into teaching) until 1992 when she teamed up with her husband, Hugh, at the Jersey Shore. They began to develop the powerful "Hugh Merkle Team" and experienced tremendous success on Seven Mile Beach. Hugh states that, "Being in real estate on 7 Mile Beach and helping other people achieve their goals of becoming part of this unique place is made very easy because Lynn and I have experienced and believe in its magic."
